So here we are. It’s 2025. Things in the world… are happening. And I made a new blog. About woodworking.
No one should ignore what’s going on in the world, but everyone ought to have a time and place in their life when they can focus on other things, too. For me, that’s when I get to make chips in my shop in my small garage in Seattle.
I’ve been interested in woodworking for decades now, and during the pandemic picked up a green woodworking habit. For better or worse, that was obviously a time when it was difficult to learn in-person, so I primarily read blogs and watched videos, and one thing I’m hoping to do with this new site is pay it forward. There are a handful of resources that I’ve found really helpful; maybe you have too, and also maybe I have something to add to the mix.
Professionally, I’m a mechanical engineer, and I design functional parts with tolerances in the microns. In many ways, it’s the opposite of woodworking – there is a clear set of requirements for any given part or project, aesthetics are largely unimportant, and exact dimensions matter, a lot. But many of the tools I use professionally – for example CAD software, 3d printers, and other CNC machines – can be quite handy in/for the shop, and I look forward to sharing some of my experiences on that front.
So let’s get to it!
